We have a crap ton of cards that we haven't gone through. As such I'm making a cube right now to draft tonight. There's only uncommons and commons kicking around so I'm doing my best.

Now, is it a bad idea to have multiples of the same card? (Like I have three {Gray Merchant of Asphodel} and loads of {Drainpipe Vermin} and {Sycopate}}

What's a good size for about 4 people to be drafting? (We might have as many as six)

Ratios of creatures to other spells for colours? (ATM I'm gonna steal the ratios from other cubes).

Am I wasting my time?

Cubes are great, don't panic. Usually you don't have multiples, but you can. The rule of thumb for size is 45 cards per person, so 180 for 4 people, 270 for 6. Try to make sure each color has about the same number of cards, you don't want everyone drafting the same color. Make sure there are at least a few removal spells and counterspells. Good luck.

Due to the quantity of cards I think I'll get away with one of each thing. I'm thinking I should do more so I'm not going to know every card in the draft. 320 is normalish cube size so I'm gunning for that.

I'm more worked about balance ATM. We have some ultra badass removal ({Victim of the Night}, {Phthisis} {Devour Flesh}...) in black and red seems to be lacking even decent burn spells.

Other stupid question, how do you make booster packs out if the cube? Just shuffle it and deal it?

Yeah, or you can separate by color and give each pack X cards of each color (depends on amount of multicolor cards and colorless cards). Also, normal size is 360. (3 packs per person, 15 cards per pack, 8 people)

Okay. We'll figure something out. The cube I'm stealing ratios from is 360 so I'll do the same.

I recommend sleeving your cube so that you do not have to run into this pack problem often.

Basically you'll just have X amount of cards sleeved up already so that you can just shuffle those cards to make packs of 15.

Much easier to assemble your cube drafts that way

Friends power cube fits in a holiday box. This includes tokens, lands etc all sleeved in dragon shields

I don't currently own enough sleeves to sleeve a cube. I'll look into it though.

Channelfireball has a good deal where you can get 5 packs of Dragonshields for like $28 (that's 400 sleeves), but you have to sleeve basics too (I recommend 50 of each) so buy 2.

So I finished the cube and we played a draft. I won going R/W by mill with a {Millstone}. I shouldn't have won.

All in all the cube is very underwhelming. There aren't any really good cards and there are virtually no win conditions (I mean {Millstone}? C'mon!)

I might post a list tomorrow if anyone's interested. I'm thinking I should add more unblockabes and other win conditions.

Are there no creatures?

Here's my list. It's a Peasant cube and quite cheap, feel free to use it, don't use, tweak it, take it as a suggestion, whatever. I really like drafting it, I think it is fairly balanced (although I think red might want something more).

Seems like a lot of multicoloured. I certainly think the power levels are higher than mine, which would be a good thing.

Yeah it is, I like having a multicolor format. If you are going to lower the amount of multicolor cards, you can also cut some of the lands.

That's what I was thinking.
