New block structure?!

If this has already been discussed or started on another thread, I appologize.

Am I missing something in the new block structure announcement? They are not making more sets each year. They are making about the same number of cards. They get a debatable benefit on the creative side, but they lose the core set (which some people like a lot).

The biggest change I see is the sets rotating out faster. While this keeps things fresh and gives each card more time to shine, that also means every card will be expensive when you need it and will be usable for less time (in standard). It basically makes standard less like modern and more like block constructed.

This seems bad, but apparently most people are happy?  What am I missing?

Yes it's being discussed in 2 other areas.. Monday August 25 and no more core sets..

Core sets are good and bad.  Core sets mainly brought back 1 mechanic and planeswalker and a few reprints.  But the main reason now that they will have 2 blocks per year is you won't get a crappy set.  Look at gatecrash and born of the gods.. Could even say dark Ascension too. They pretty much suck. Maybe have 1 or 2 good cards in them. And going on a 18 month rotation, still allows us to be at 3 different planes.    First main rotation out will be spring 2016. Khans/duey rotate out leaving us with  Louie/m16, blood/tears, lock.  Then summer comes barrel.

More creativity being each new block bring new mechanics, we lose one full set total per full meta (the core) which really isn't that bit of a loss when they push those mythics into place in the other sets meaning the sets will be worth more per pack increasing the value of dollars spent opening packs vs buying cards straight up.

As with buying full boxes and cases
