I'm glad to see one in Charlotte again, though.  Driving the 2.5/4.5 Hours to Richmond/DC was annoying.
I want those back! I live in VA and it's 5 hours to Charlotte.

Charlotte's only about an hour  and a half for me when I'm at school, about two when I'm at home.  I drove the drive to Richmond and DC last season, you can make the drive to Charlotte next season.

Nothing against the people from the Midwest, but did wizards get their demographic sheets mixed up? Why are half the GPs in the Midwest with the rest being way weighted towards the east coast...and yet there is what, one tourney in the northeast? This is .loving. stupid.
I feel you. I live in Western New York and I have to drive like 300 miles to get to a GP.
The closest GP for me is 4 and a half hours.

It's a hard life. I'm in Australia. I get two GPs per year in my country. The closest one for me means I have to drive an hour and a half to the airport, catch a three hour flight, then another hour long trip from that airport in either a cab, a hire car or public transport. And that's for the GP closest to me. Throw in accommodation on top of all that. That's why I play MTGO......

The gp 15 minutes away from me is modern.

What the hell? There's no chicago gp?

ihasfrozen

No legacy GP on the east coast means I'm probably going to Seattle/Tacoma.

Yeah the GPs lack in SoCal, it seems scg events are taking over San Diego

We have GP LA this fall, but it's still not as many as I see all over the Midwest and eaast coast

Really wizards?!! Every pt is standard!! That's bull .poo.!! Sure it's popular but standard is such a small format. Look right now there are like 4 decks in standard. I was sick of watching Mono Black vs Mono Black splash Elspeth now I have to watch more standard?! Arghh!!

(Or do I sound like a spoiled brat?) like I do enjoy standard but there are no real variation in decks and as a rogue player I wish there was

I think they believe Standard provides a much more fun events. Also, some people believe that since Theros was so weak, and none of its cards would show up in Modern, that it's kinda simliar to what happened during Homelands.

I think it is a money grab. Magic has been growing, but sales have sort of plateaued, thanks to lower power level and sets like Born with like 2 cards that are worth anything. In addition, standard has actually been going down in popularity as players tired of devotion decks turn to commander and modern. By pushing standard, they can sell more boxes.

Interesting theory on MTGSalvation: "Something of note, May 30th-31st is listed as to be determined cities in three different continents, all Limited. Calling it now.... Modern Masters 2 events."

Wouldn't that make GPs like $80 entry?

How much do normal Limited gps cost?

From Wizards, "entry fees vary from event to event." My guess is $40-70, depending on MSRP, organizers, etc.
