Add 1 mana

If I have a card that says add 1 to your mana pool. Like {Darksteel Citadel}. And another card that says add 1 mana of any color to your mana pool, like {Darksteel Ingot} what is the technical difference between the two.

{Darksteel Citadel} adds one colorless mana. You can tell because it says {1}.
{Darksteel Ingot} adds on mana of any color.

colored mana is either white, blue, black, red, or green. colorless mana can pay for the mana costs that are just numbers in spells you cast, whereas colored mana can pay for the colored symbols. like {doom blade} costs 1 colorless and 1 black mana.

The one that says add {1} to your mana pool can only be used for colorless mana (you could cast {Bonesplitter} with it, but not {Giant Growth}).  If you had a {Forest} and {Darksteel Citadel}, you could cast {Rampant Growth}, but not {Garruk's Companion}.
