How I perceive a mod, is when you are seen as helpful enough to other members, and seen as an asset to the other mods.  You have to be knowledgable, and different.  It's like a melting pot of people, if they had a group of people with the same ideas and thoughts, then it would be boring.  Just be different, be knowledgable,  and be courteous.

It is a mix.  Someone can suggest a member to be a mod, and they vote.  Piotr could always revoke that vote, but for the most part, the majority rules.  You have to accept iMtG law (unless you were Testset ), and if you have gone through all that.  Boom modship, you get your own little section for yourself to post in called Moderators.  Everyone claps, champaigne is opened, blah blah blah.

I would say:

-Participate in a few areas of discussion
-For rules: cite rules, be succinct and correct with answers constantly
-Be yourself, not a lurker. It's hard for us to get a feel of who you are if you rarely post.
-Follow iMTG law.
