Journey prerelease
Sealed play
Guy does  {Riddle of Lightning} while I'm at 2 life, he pulls a land,a one drop, and a  {Bronze Sable}, I spent the next 3 minutes thanking him and he had no idea why but everyone who saw it happen knew the sentimental value of the play...

Lmfao! That's hilarious! Did you eventually show him your "stuff"

I don't show just anyone my "stuff"... I save the shock and awe for right girl ;)

What about the left girl?

Last Modern event not funny but sad. I had {Emrakul the Aeons Torn} out Turn 5 and he tapped it down with Cryptic on my upkeep that turn I t seized him and saw Snap Caster his 6th land and a Serum Visions not thinking about snap into cryptic I took visions 😢
But Emmy has protection from colors

My initial response to this was incorrect

702.16e: Any damage that would be dealt by sources that have the stated quality to a permanent or player with protection is prevented.

This means that emrakul cannot be targeted by either of cryptic command's modes as it has the characteristic of being a 'coloured spell'

Mattao19

I never cast him. I use {Polymorph}

Also it wasnt the bounce trigger on Cryptic it was tap all creatures :(

Mr_Fahrenheit

Yeah same deal. If something has protection from a characteristic it cannot be effected by said characteristic. Whether it targets or not is irrelevant, it isn't the same as hexproof. I was ignorant of this until this afternoon when I took my rules advisor test. One question feature a similar situation and I got it wrong.

I love happening on Rules things in unrelated threads...

Your initial response was correct.  Protection prevents very specific things, commonly remembered as DEBT:
Damage
Equip/Enchant (Attachment)
Blocking
Targeting
...by Anything of the chosen quality.

Because Cryptic Command is doing none of these things, it'll tap down Emrakul just fine.  If protection prevented any effect by anything of the quality, Emrakul would be incredibly hard to remove, and Progenitus would be impossible.

As for funny ways of losing games...  I'll tell you a funny way a friend of mine lost a game.  He was playing Karona Human Tribal.  He manages to finagle playing {Hermit Druid}, then casts {Marauder of Mogis} to give it haste and mill his deck with it.  After a beat, he realizes that he doesn't have the third creature for flashing back {Dread Return} on {Angel of Glory's Rise}, and promptly scoops.  Five minutes later, we realize it was just because he forgot his {Narcomoeba} trigger.

I got milled to death in an EDH game by {geth, lord of the vault} after the guy stole my {prophet of kruphix}/{hokori dust drinker} lock....

He then proceeded to mill me for 20 ish a turn using {nykthos, shrine to nyx} and {cabal coffers}. Afterwards he killed the third guy using {malakir blood witch} after activating my {mirror entity}. Lol.

How could he use your {mirror entity} after you died? After you die, everything you own disappears with you.

Ekann1

They were kicking us out so we had to finish quickly, so we didn't really pay attention and assumed he was doing it in the "correct" order and killing the other guy first.

Deebiia

{Omen Machine} into {Phage the Untouchable}... Sad day in EDH

MuggyWuggy

Notion thief
Played to steal someone's cards
Next guy plays consecration sphinx. Game over.

Wingnut

Playing mtgo this weekend I had out  {Underworld Dreams}, couple turns later I dropped a  {Consecrated Sphinx}, cool things are going well. So he drops a  {Progenitor Mimic} targeting the sphinx..... I'm like, ok, that's was easy.....

{Hurricane}. I couldn't win the game. But I could do enough damage to kill everyone. So we all lose.  I have also done it with  {Pestilence}. Again I wasn't gonna win and I didn't want to wait for the game to finish so I basically killed myself and a few others and gave the game away. Used to always play multiplayer and the games could get silly.

If am effect would kill both players simultaneously, the non active player wins

Ekann1

I don't think this is true. I got a ruling about this involving {char} one time, let me see if I can look it up.

Ekann1

104.4a: If all the players remaining in a game lose simultaneously, the game is a draw.

TreeSmoker

Lastnight a guy flashed in a cockatrice (from journey) also had athreos out
I was attacking he play cockatrice
And asked if i wanted to pay 3 life and i was down to 2
It was not a good night
Lol

Last night in the last round we were tied and went to the third game.  We then went to turns, my opponent played a  {Akroan Horse} on me.  My hand was filled with counter spells and no threats.  My next draw was a  {Godsend}, which I promptly equipped to my horse.  That put us at a stalemate and we ended up drawing.  It was not really a loss, but we were amused by it anyway.
