What's the difference between activated abilities and triggered abilities?
I thought {T} and {2}{B}{B} was activated abilities and cannot be used by creatures as soon as they come out unless they have haste. And triggered abilities is where "at the beginning of your upkeep....", or "when [this] enters the battlefield.. [do this]."
But I'm getting argued with saying that I'm wrong. Can someone clear this up?

Activated abilities are indicated by a cost separated by a colon, and an effect. Creatures that don't have haste can activate an ability as long as it doesn't require them to tap. So, nothing that makes it tap can be used the turn it comes into play. An activated ability that only requires an action, or a mana cost can be used right away.

You're understanding of the difference between activated abilities and triggered abilities is ultimately correct, though...

Not that double didnt do an excellent job but I like examples so here it is:

Activated Abilities:

{Arbor Elf} has a {T} in it's cost therefore unless it's given haste it can't activate it's ability right away.

{Scavenging Ooze} is just {G} therefore you can activate it as soon as he enters!!

302.6.: A creature's activated ability with the tap symbol or the untap symbol in its activation cost can't be activated unless the creature has been under its controller's control continuously since his or her most recent turn began. A creature can't attack unless it has been under its controller's control continuously since his or her most recent turn began. This rule is informally called the "summoning sickness" rule.

Back out of the forums and go to the rules section of the app. Find the rule you want to quote. Press and hold the rule and select copy. Go back unto the forum and reply normally. You can then press and hold while writing the reply and select paste.
