Why don't people use {Runesnag} more often? It does its job early game and scales up to be affective in the late game. Why {Manaleak}? I am curious because I am building UW control for Modern and I think I am going to run {Runesnag} over {Manaleak}.

When I get the deck together, I am going to keep track of every time I cast {Rune Snag} and record whether it was enough, whether it got scaled up, and whether or not {Mana Leak} would have done the job. Should be interesting to see the results because I absolutely love {Rune Snag}.

I like {Rune Snag}, and for a while felt the same way you did, but you have to think about it this way: In order for {Rune Snag} to be better than a {Mana Leak} in a given situation, you must have played AT LEAST 2 additional copies on top if the third you are casting. At that point in the game, and keeping variance in mind, neither {Rune Snag} or {Mana Leak} would be very good due to the fact that's it's about turn 7-10. That is, unless you end up with an opening hand with 3 {Rune Snag}s, but if you're running Snag over Leak on the off chance you get a 3 Snag opener, you're doing it wrong. And as everyone else has already mentioned, {Snapcaster Mage}, because he is essential. Snappy-ing a Leak is always a solid move, and hitting a Leak doesn't make said Leak worse. Now hitting a Snag sounds just plain bad. More often than not you are only going to have 2, so you just get a Leak, which sounds decent. But with that said, if you cannot draw into another Snag, and that other Snappy needs to counter, that lone Snag is looking awful weak, which honestly happens pretty often. Now then again, I still recommend play testing, because this is solely my personal opinion, and raw data may show that it is just strictly better. I am honestly interested in what the stats show, like I said, I'm still a fan of that card.
