Would {torpor orb} stifle {phyrexian dreadnaut}?

Keyeto

It will stop his ETB trigger from going off, letting you (or your opponent!) summon him with no drawbacks.

MisterJH

Ok good!
Also, not quite related but since this is resolved, will {death's shadow} enter as a 13/13 or wnter with -x/-x(assuming i resurrected the shadow from GY and {flayer of the hatebound} was on battlefield

Deathstorm

It enters with a -x and flayers ability will be stopped by torpor orb

Death's Shadow has a static ability that constantly modified its power and toughness while it's on the field.  Torpor Orb has no interaction.  With Flayer's ability, Power is checked on Resolution.  If DS enters with 10 power, but you pay 2 life for something before the ability resolves and it's power becomes 12 when the ability checks it, it'll deal 12 damage.  However, that ability IS stopped by Torpor orb.

MisterJH

Im not asking about torpor orb though so that doesnt help my question. Torpor orb can be assumed not to be on the battlefield for the sake of the question because otherwise it would be an extraordinarily dumb question. So will flayer deal the adjusted damage? Or 13?

Point is, Power is checked on resolution.

However, if you want to do something cute with Death's Shadow and Dreadnought, Death's Shadow's ability doesn't function when it's in the graveyard.  If you use {Varolz, the Scar-Striped} to Scavenge it, you'll get 13 counters for {B}

lol i cant repeat plus 1ing you until 24 hours.

edit: and scavenging 13 counters for 1 mana means both of us deserve a punch in the mouth.

MisterJH

Well secretly id never use varolz because i hate golgari colors on the same card so no worries, no mouth punching combos here

Seriously {G}{B} on the same card is so freakin ugly unless its hybrid mana...
