I have a  {Hive Mind} in play. My buddy casts  {Counterspell} on my  {Primeval Titan} . does {Hive Mind} allow me to copy his {Counterspell} and counter the {Counterspell} that targeted my {Primeval Titan} ?

BallisticTip

How does {Hive Mind} work with  {Grapeshot} ? Who's spell resolves first? The original caster, or the person that copied it?

FustyDavorite

From Gatherer rulings:

10/1/2009   The copies that Hive Mind's ability creates are created on the stack, so they're not "cast." Abilities that trigger when a player casts a spell (like Hive Mind's ability itself) won't trigger.

So in that case, the copies are not cast, so the  {Hive Mind} copies do not trigger storm, and storm copies do not trigger Hive Mind.

Okay good to know. So the wording "play" and "cast" are the same?

FustyDavorite

Correct. Notice in the oracle text for  {Grapeshot} it actually says "cast".

While the two words have similar effects in magic, they are not the same and can't be used interchangeably.

601.1a: Some effects still refer to "playing" a card. "Playing a card" means playing that card as a land or casting that card as a spell, whichever is appropriate.

In essence, all cast cards are played, but not all played cards are cast.

right, I had meant just in this scenario. I probably should've clarified that. Sorry.
