If you shoot someone holding a sword their sword is still there. If you poison a town the sword is still there. The sword is not a creature it is an artifact. It lives by the rules of artifacts not creatures. This is how all equipments work. In the case of living weapons a dorky creature is created already holding the weapon (free equip to that dorky 0/0). Now in order for any other creature to pick up or take that weapon away from a creature holding it the equip cost must be paid.
I always enjoy your explanations :)
Can you tell I teach for a living but not at a school? I always look at the demographic and find the most relatable metaphor I can think of. That being said you should see some of the examples I dont post because my metaphors do cross lines sometimes...think before you speak/type right?

I have a hard time remembering that rule sometimes. Words seem to slip out... I can't help it.

ibtrickey

Then what about auras? Enchants on creatures?

ibtrickey

This makes no sense to me

Spencer Addington

Artifacts are different from equipments. Equipments are permanents and enchantments aren't.

ibtrickey

Okay, clears up a lot:)

Enchantments are permanents.
Auras are enchantments whose existence is tied to a creature. No creature, no Aura.
