And yeah, mana flooded hard. Opening a hand had one land, muligan to six and had four lands, legendary cat, and gift of orzhova. Keep that and then drew three more lands. Heh.

On a different note, I found the answer to {abrupt decay} in modern.

{redirect} as a three of in the sideboard. What do you think?  It stops coubterspells and removal, it can hinder infect pumps, fairly versatile against about half the decks out there.

I will simply cast my {desecration demon} and not attack, sorry.

On {redirect}, it's nice, but it only works if there isn't another target, and after you pull off that truck the first time, the other player will play around it. {Boomerang} can counter it while slowing aggro and annoying combo.

If I boomerang my howling mine, then I'm still down a card, I have to replay howling mine, and they get to draw the first time around and I don't.

I assume they will have something I can target wth abrupt decay. And if they play around it for fear I have it, that's awesome too.

Ok. Draw. {ordeal of heliod} on the favored hoplite. Heroic. Attack. Ordeal. Sac ordeal and gain ten. I'm at 12.

Swing with him, an 8/9 flying lifelink. Keep the 5/5 vigalence back (again, maybe should have put it on the token? A 7/7 vigalence would be nice, but I want the ten life now.

{Bile Blight} the hoplite and block with {desecration demon}? This would make you at 17 and my demon the sole survivor.

{favored hoplite} doesn't take damage after his heroic triggers.

I'll just go through with it but both will live.

Draw, {pack rat} #2, activate all 3 {mutavaults}, swing with 6/6 flying demon, 5/5 rat, 2/4 merchant, and 3 2/2 vaults for a total of 19, pass.

Ok. So since you shrunk my guy I only gained five life, so I was at 17. You attack with 19, I have a 5/5 blocker...

I guess I have to block the rat to live, and they trade. Leaves me at 3 life.
