So I was browsing the database, and realize how much I love and miss the Urza block. I read all of the books and couldn't put them down.

I've liked others like the Mirrodin set because the story is great and the cards are wonderful.

Does anyone else have this kind of fascination with MTG sets?

I'm sure this is kind of strange, but I remember after reading a book I would go through the set and read all the flavor text in the Urzas Block and it all made sense. Even the names of the cards.

I figured this could lead to an interesting conversation. :D

I started buying heavily in Innistrad and loved the gothic flavor. Avacyn Restore ruined it though.

I was saddened when they stopped making the books.  The last few were very disappointing... Although Inastrad would have been a very awesome book!

I do like the whole Human vs Wearwolf thing, but in my opinion they played out the Planeswalkers... so that kind of lost it for me!

Worldwake was pretty cool, but my favorite is zendikar.

Ertai

What did you like about Zendikar and Worldwake?

Spencer Addington

Zendikar has all my favorite vampires, and I've been obsessed with vampires since I've played, and worldwake had jace mind sculptur which is in my top 10 favorite cards. In terms of flavor though, innistrad is where it's at.

I love Zendikar for a very, very different reason. I loved it (pre-Eldrazi) for its lush, gorgeous landscape theme. A wondrous place full of beauty and hidden treasures/dangers. That's really an ideal setting for me. Then when you add to it that beneath the paradise-like beautiful scenery is the awakening universe-killing terrors, the likes of which had never before even been fathomed (The Eldrazi), the block just hit the flavor ball out of the park. Truly great.

I truly enjoy the cards and gameplay too. Where would be without Zendikar? No modern fetch lands. No {Emrakul, the Aeons Torn}. No infamous {Jace, the Mind Sculptor}. Cards you see in every format still. (If they haven't been banned for being TOO good!)

I'm also a sucker for Alara block. I love the tri-color theme and playstyle. It really pushed players out of their comfort zones, and Alara Reborn having 0 non-multicolored cards in the entire set was just glorious. The set feeds me some of my favorites EDH cards, and I am proud to say that I am the reason my lgs had to start raising prices on their Alara block packs (I bought the crap out of their stock :D)

Zendikar also brought us the beautiful textless lands!!! Which is always nice.

Speaking of multi colored cards, I miss the originals. The ones you would be crazy to use. Though, when you did, it was amazing!!

Loved the original Mirrodin series (because I loved everything about the Weatherlight crew and Karn), but my morbid fascination with survival horror genre made me fall head over heels for Scars of Mirrodin! I loved the novel, I loved the webicomic and I loved the panic Infect caused in the players, not just the lore!

I was that inspired I made two decks at the time, both with 100% limited flavour partially taken from the novel: A {W}{R} Equip Prevent Damage deck centered around the concept of all the survivors from the various tribals around the plains and outcrops retreat for a last stand at Taj-Nar under the leadership of {Kemba, Kha Regent} and {Jor-Kadeen, the Prevailer} (with guest appearance by {Koth of the Hammer} and {Elspeth Tirel} with the sideboard splashing {U} just to get {Venser, the Sojourner} in there if I was feeling ultra novelly).
The other was a {B}{G} Artifact Sac and Reanimate Infect deck, an all out assault on the Liet Fields and Taj-Nar lead by {Glissa, the Traitor} and {Geth, Lord of the Vault} (sideboard also splashed {U} just for extra Proliferate AND {Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas} if I was feeling equally novelly).

The infect deck was ok, but I surprised myself with the strength of the {W}{R}, taking out most standards at the time!

Edit: ...I'm gonna rip it out again now! Man, can you tell I enjoyed SoM?!?!

So did you like the Marcadean Masques block? That's the original with the weatherlight crew! Same thing with the Invasion cycle.

Spikepit

Yeah, loved Masquerade!!

Really enjoyed the NPH. Got me back into this game. Had fun on one of my first few drafts. I was playing red artifact. Had a lot of weenies that I hit early. Got my opponent to below ten and I was still full health. He dropped a few creatures. We were at a stand still and I was doomed. I really didn't have any fatties or fliers. And he was building up an army. So I attacks with one creature ,sorry forgot name and didn't feel like looking it up, red artifact 2/1. He looked at me like I was crazy and said I let it thru and take two damage. Then I told him to wait because I want to pump it up to a 10/1 using phyrexian mana. He now look at me like wtf. So I won game 2 of 2. He ripped up his hand of cards, I think commons and left. Was a great night. I really enjoy seeing people rip up their cards from me.
