Nevertheless, if you're building to compete, then U/G isn't the way to go. American maybe, depending on the meta where you play.

I would totes go with American. At least then, even if you can't afford {Sphinx's Revelation}, you can still use fun stuff like {Detention Sphere} (so much yes!) and {Ethereal Armor}.

Then what about Bant auras? Run the scout, favored hoplite etc and beat them to death haha. Aqueous form gets ya through and counts toward ethereal armor. Not too mindless.
