Noah runs five color slivers EDH and never has a problem with mana. It's pretty annoying.

I agree, another good one (probs just as good as rug) is bug. Access to blue and black makes things broken as hell with extra turns, counters, removal, and well, necropotence. Toss in damia as a commander and you're set.

My friend runs a similar deck to the one you just described with damia. It's pretty notorious in our friend group.

My fried used to have a {The Mimeoplasm} deck. T1: Swamp, {Dark Ritual}, {Entomb}: {Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur}, {Reanimate}, {Sol Ring}, pass turn.

Edit: But I think the real answer to which color combo is the best, is to just say all of them. Each one is unique and powerful on its own.

Well, there's {Evolving Wilds} and {Teramorphic Expanse} to work with in lands.{Traveler's Amulet} in artifacts, {Rampant Growth} and {Explore} in spells, and {Borderland Ranger} in creatures. There are more but these are just the ones that came up first on my head.

5 color goodstuff. There, now nobody else has to say it. But really I am a believer in 5 color edh. With perfect mana and access to every card legal in edh, why not salvage the best of all colors?
Yeah, but if you use 5 color you have to spend like $500 or more on lands to make it really effective. Also every 5 color deck must run {Door to Nothingness}!

That's how 5-color sliver decks win.

{R}{U}{G} I think is the best...you get to use cards like {Sneak Attack}, {Show and Tell}, and {Survival of the Fittest} together. Get to use {Maelstrom Wanderer} and {Riku of Two Reflections} to make things more unfair. You get combo, aggro, and control all in one package.

Riku for the win.   :).

RUG just has so many great cards for multiplayer and the interactions are I think by far the best for EDH.

$500? Pah! I run shocks and buddy lands,  3x each basic, and utility from there, totals $150 tops with minimal mana issues

^ like he said. If I were building 5 color i'd want Filter lands, but couldn't afford em. Probably settle for shocks, tap lands and karoos. Since I've got all the shocks already, not a budget breaker.

I also think these colors are best for multi-player and 1v1...without having to change your deck...most times with the other colors you build your deck for multi-player and lose to friends in 1v1 and the same is true for those who build for 1v1. RUG just can do more for less.

Mono {teferi, mage of zhalfir} to hate everyone else out! All you need is blue, and I built mine for less than $100, since we don't need any duals
