Got an odd question...

You have an {essence warden} in play, then play a {ivory mask}, would the mask prevent you from gaining life?

If it said target player gains life, you'd have to chose an opponent because your spell/ability must have a target.

You'd have to target a player that doesn't have Hexproof or Shroud
