Avacyn has three main flights of angels, each will have their own legendary angel card.
There are griffs in AVR – kind of like griffons, but they have heron heads.
Tamed werewolves (wolfir) also, still werewolves but the rage curse is lifted.
Soulbond is a new mechanic in AVR.
Another mechanic introduced – Miracles! These cards have a new frame treatment to help make sure you know to reveal it when you draw. There are no black miracles.
Black and red have cool things like demons for black, and haste for humans.

C'mon! No comments on the recently released cards!!! Moon silver spear!!!! And a black card that cost Xb, players sac creatures unless they pay X life for each creature! A green enchantment that gets counters whenever a creature you control attacks, remove counters for any color of mana! I'm starting to think this set is gonna be major OP!

They are Special event cards. Special versions of cards that you can only get by participating in specific events.

The Black one would be AWESOME In a creatureless deck.
Heck, even against a swarm deck, if you play it for X=1 it can be pretty potent.
