Eldrazi, Slivers and Phyrexians = DOOM!

Also didn't Nicola Bolas recombine the 5 shards of Alara creating lots of energy nobody knows what happend to? (Making Nicola Bolas a .poo. ton stronger IMO)
I'm not 100% sure on this though a buddy filled me in on a lot of the lore.

You guys forgot about all the old planeswalkers... Urza, Serra, Barrin, Jeska...

Back before the event known as the "Mending", Planeswalkers were essentially Gods.  Incredibly powerful beings with powers beyond anything a normal person could imagine.  The ability to reshape the body, to generate elemental power out of almost nothing, to control almost anything you could think of, to walk between planes of existence with a mere thought.  These were the powers of those like Urza and Serra.  During Urza's insanely on long time, he fought wars against his brother and Phyrexia, walked to the edges of the Multiverse, prevented no less than two Phyrexian invasions of Dominaria, founded the Academy at Tolaria West, created Karn, the Weatherlight and the Metathran, and stopped the Phyrexian take-over of Serra's Realm.  But then, Urza and his contemporaries were immortal, unable to die from old age or disease.

However, the Mending to save the Multiverse cost Planeswalkers much of their power.  These days, they're essentially just very powerful mages who can walk between planes and have extended life spans.  While they have characters and personalities, I still love reading the Artifacts cycle; the Story of Urza and Mishra, of Xantcha, Gix and Ratepe, of Barrin, Jhoira and Karn, and the creation of the Metathran and the Legacy.  I'd recommend them highly, though the second book (Planeswalker) is really slow moving.  If you look hard enough, you can find PDFs of the books on the internet.
