Here's my next standard deck!

The plan:

T1: Cackler
T2: Spike Jester
T3-end - burn away blockers, swing for 5.

If opponent stalls, drop Rakdos. If I stall, drop Exava or Purphoros.

The deck isn't yet 100% complete, I feel it might need tweaks. And I know the sideboard needs help.

Any input appreciated!

Vindog

What does rakdos second ability have to do if he has no colorless?

Works on other creatures. For example, hit with {Spike Jester}, cast {Purphoros, God if the Forge} for {R} or {Sire of Insanity} for {1}{R}{B}.

In my opinion good sir I would drop glaring spotlight an add in more skull cracks. Just a personal preference of mine.

Gorzo

I do definitely want more skullcracks. Having just one in the sideboard is pretty pointless.

I find myself very hesitant to cut spotlight though. Pre rotation, hexproof decks were the most obnoxious thing I've ever had to deal with in standard. And this deck's entire plan would be completely ruined by hexproof and the inability to burn it away. In addition, the sac effect is extremely relevant for a killing blow from me.

However, with no more Geist or Invisible Staljers to worry about, how much hexproof am I going to see? The Lion will die before they can use monstrosity. Hmm...

SoshiGanrou

Only he proof I see is the Glavecover scout, the hex proof defender and the lion really in main meta. So... A 1/1 a 0/3 and a possible 4/4 I think once it's monstrous. You've got plenty of guys to swing in if one gets picked off so might be worth it. Or get anger the gods to deal with it.

Gorzo

You make a very strong argument! Thanks!

InfinitiveDivinity

I could definitely see a benefit from {Lightning Strike}, maybe go 3-3-3 on {Mizzium Mortars}, {Magma Jet} and {Hero's Downfall}, and just run 3 strike. Mortars is good but you can't kill your opponent with it.

InfinitiveDivinity

Geez, actually, with 4-of {Dreadbore}, {Hero's Downfall} can probably be a 2 of to be honest. Allowing another {Magma Jet}? Either that or {Lightning Strike}.

Gorzo

Hmm, I'll have to playtest with that. I struggle with the thought of removing a sure-kill like {Hero's Downfall} though, as the whole point of the deck is going on a blood orgy rampage Rakdos-style on anything that can block, and driving Cackler, Spike Jester, and Exava home hard and fast.

The way I'm seeing it:
Sure-fire kill and swing for 5 + force another blocker drop is better than 3 noncombatant damage and stop being able to attack profitably.

Make sense? Or do I have tunnel vision on my strategy?

Arbitratur

I do have to say, when my love of aggro, this deck looks ridiculously fun! I have been thinking about something similar, I would love to know how well it does

SoshiGanrou

Hey I just thought of this and I don't know how you would feel about it but would definitely help solve pesky verdict problems a little.  {Showstopper}??

Levitress

Verdic kills all creatures,  {Showstopper} only deals damage to creatures.

Yeah I read it a little too quickly, now if it said creature or player! But alas it does not...
