I'm looking for a new deck idea. My {G}{W}{B} is only going 2/2 each week, and I'm just really disappointed. I guess mainly because I was building that deck since February, and it cost me $600+, but only goes 2/2.

I need new standard ideas for decks, thanks

First things first. I have a few questions that will us guide you to a deck you'll be happy with :)

1) what was your old deck? Beyond color, I mean. What playstyle? What was the win condition? Did the crush/struggle against any certain opponents in particular? And most importantly, what did you enjoy and dislike about the deck and the way it played?

2) how do you like to play? Agro? Control? Midrange? Combo? Tribal? A certain tactic or card really appeal to you? Something must make you enjoy playing more than others.

And 3) what's your meta like? Are there any partial players you really want to beat, enough to tailor your new deck against theirs? If so, tell us about them and what they play ;)

The old deck was Junk midrange lifegain. Win Condition was either {Blood Baron of Vizkopa} or {Archangel of Thune} typically.

My meta has so much {U}{W} control that I lose to every week. My favorite play style is anything really. I've been building a Grixis control deck that has been alright, I've played Selesnya Aggro, Junk Midrange, 4 color Reanimator, really anything. I just don't want to net deck anything. My builds have almost always been Homebrew, and I like going against the norm at my LGS. I haven't tried the Grixis in tournament though, so I'll be trying that this week.

I guess I'm just feeling disappointed as a deck builder kind of guy. Most of the enjoyment I get from the game I get from building up brews. But I really don't feel good about it unless it can consistently at least go 3-1. Especially when the deck cost $600...

I understand the feel. I love deck building, but when they don't perform as well as I hope, it's disheartening.

Hmm... Lots of u/w control in the meta, huh? If sorcery-speed control is the most of it ({Detention Sphere}, {Supreme Verdict} type stuff), {Obzedat, Ghost Counsel} might be something to consider. His phasing makes him immune to sorceries, and his coloring has him immune to {Doom Blade}s should any of those decks be Esper. Obzedat can even race with {Ætherling}, potentially. The life gain from ETB triggers offsets some of the incoming damage, and the trigger + combat is 7 damage per turn from King Obbzie. Just watch out for {Celestial Flare}!

The weenie agro strategy is another way to, if the control isn't board-wipes. I'll admit I'm not too current on what the white weenie decks are running post-innistrant-rotation, but there's always lots of weenies to run an agro deck with. Mostly white or red.

Or you can always control the controllers. That new "counter target blue spell" spell is sure to annoy some people, and {Dissolve} and other scry spells in blue can really help you get through control vs control matchups.

Watch the patrick chapin magic cruise talk on youtube. It is about an hour and has many key points important for any true homebrewer to know. If your deck is not performing well it is mostly likely for one of two reasons; one you overlooked something important in your meta or deck construction, two your technical skill (including shuffling) as a player is not up to local standards. Best of luck to you and feel free to PM for more specific advise or to bounce brewing ideas.

You should try my friend's Grixis Control. That deck is BRUTAL.

I do run Obzedat, and he just gets foiled. These decks all seem to instantly have an answer. He got {Selesnya Charm}ed twice in the tournament, and once, he got {Ratchet Bomb}ed, along with {Archangel of Thune}.

{Blind Obedience}  shut him down completely.

I think the issue is I don't have enough beaters in the deck, and it can't decide what it is.

Hopefully the Grixis deck can at least maybe do some work

Mono red or Big Red seems to have some really good tools right now to combat U/W... Might be worth a try and shouldn't be too expensive.

White weenie can always rely on the ever dependable {fiendslayer paladin}
And {Fabled Hero}!

Gorzo

Ugh, I forgot about blind obedience. I forgot how much I hate playing against that card. At least Theros has added a lot of new enchantment and artifact removal.

DylanW18

But really, the week before last I got {Sphinx's Revelation}ed for 8. This week, it was FOURTEEN. No one should gain that much life or cards. Also, {Trading Post} and {Haunted Platemail} just destroyed me. Lots of no fun

All-Mana Mania

If say make triad of fates a thing. That'll be fun
