I'm surprised this hasn't come up yet: which was better Magic 2013 or Magic 2014. For me, its M13 by a landslide but I wanted to seek other opinions.

I believe {Yeva, natures herald} was a sleeping giant in that set. Elves combo on an opponents turn

I like M13 better because: {Vampire Nighthawk}, {Farseek}, {Vampire Nocturnus}, {Krenko, Mob Boss}, {Searing Spear}, {Oblivion Ring}, {Flinthoof Boar}...and Elf Ball!

I don't like the art in M14 either...although some of the cards are nice.

I am also going with m14. Its been my favorite core in a while.  Lots of value cards and come on
{Witchstalker}
{Fiendslayer paladin}
{Lifebane zombie}
{Archangel of thune}
{Scavenging ooze}
And many many other fun cards

O ring would be stupid in mono white standard right now.. like.. op

Such an underrated card

M14 just for the ooze and  {Mutavault} reprints

M13 had much more creativity and origionality where m14 is just a bad enchantment theme as an excuse for printing theros support cards and a bunch of innistrad reprints that remind us that nothing coming up will be as perfectly designed as in innistrad.

And before anyone makes an arguement about innistrad mistakes, {ponder} broke {delver of secrets} and was in core set, phyrexian mana was a previous mistake, and it was noninnistrad spells like {farseek} and {garruk primal hunter} that made jund stupid good with {bonfire of the damned} and {olivia voldaren}.

My opinion of M13 is...better than it looks
My opinion of M14 is...not as good as it looks

I enjoyed M14 more. As a limited format player and not much a constructed format player, M14 had more variety in its mechanics, more balance throughout the five colors (again, talking limited), and it held my interest for FNM drafts for the entire summer. M13 had its good stuff in limited, no doubt, but I grew bored with it pretty quick, probably only halfway through the summer. And blue was a bore for me 13. M14 was the first time in a long time that I really had fun drafting blue.

And best of all, no Thragtusk!

But those are just my opinions.
