Logically yes, since the spell did say it is divided.

But I think this needs to be clarified by the experts since my earlier quote from the rules did make this a little confusing.

Thanks, Paraluke.
If the spell is  {Electrolyze}, can it split?
The first one

The second. Anyone else get this?

It cannot. When you play {Electrolyze} and hit the player, the time to split is already up. You hit the player, and then you can redirect that damage to the PW; it's all or nothing.

Until we get a card that says "does 3 damage divided as you choose among any number of players, planeswalkers, and creatures" we'll have to deal with it. I cannot think of any card that would allow you to divide the damage as you're wanting, I'm afraid.

 {Flames of the Firebrand}?

Didn't notice electrolyte only does 2 damage.

{Chandra's Outrage}?
What about it? You can redirect the 2 damage to the controller to one of that player's walkers. Just like any other damage spell.

Modified my post to mean firebrand...

Same deal. You choose your player(s) and can redirect the damage to a PW. There's no way to split it.

Ah so if I say 2 damage to player 1 damage to creature it would be treated as 2 damage as the source, not 1 + 1.

Exactly! It does not matter if the spell lets you divide damage or damage multiple players, etc. Whatever damage is being dealt to the player with the PW can be redirected, in total or not at all.

Thanks keyeto ;)

MaxPayne03 I hope you got your answer.
