For those of you who don't know, schools on a national level are going to what's called the "Common Core". Its meant to standardize the nation as to what is taught, make us a more competitive nation education-wise and force higher standards. Common core is also supposed to switch us to digital textbooks and lower dropout rates. With all of these benefits though, there are of course A LOT of problems. At least in my school, teachers are saying that the material is ridiculous and the switch will be brutal for the first year. What are everyone's thoughts/feelings/ideas on the Common Core?

I say it's a good thing. I also say institute something like the BAC before entering high school/college...

It really doesn't affect me, I am mostly taking college and AP courses so I don't have to deal with all that BS but my teachers are really concerned for some of the kids. Apparently they are being forced to teach 90 minutes of material within 80 blocks and to quote my math teacher "you don't have to teach math to know that those numbers don't add up".

I don't like it because its forcing people who excel at a certain subject to slow their progress down to what the nation thinks, and the only people that will really have trouble are the people who are going to end up having to speed up, when some of them can't, to where the nation thinks they should be. I can't remember what the two top educated states are but I know that New York is ranked #3 so why would you pushed all of us down and drag some people up just so we can all be on the "same level" when really we aren't on the same level. Some of the teachers I've talked don't like the common core and some have had to completely change what they thought was common core stuff to what is actually common core learning.
Ill end my rant right there because I have some more to say but ill stop for now

Not liking it because my son is in 2nd reading at nearly a 6th grade level and is great at math but like above he has to learn slower with the other kids and his school won't even talk about advancing him a grade even though he tests enough to advance...

That's why I suggested the BAC. It's used in some European countries. Students study hard for it, and depending on how they score, depends on the type of job they can hold or study for. Also, they should reduce the cost secondary education. College is too expensive, even with scholarships and grants!!

In some countries you are sorted into high, middle and low schools depending on how well you do.

I'm saying no. Waldorf and partial waldorf schools (such as mine) would have a heck of a time.

Couldn't say, I go to a college prep high school and I am in the advanced classes set to graduate with distinction(I hope). Public school system sucks, I have been to two public schools and I disliked both of them.

Developed countries have long been guilty of assembly line education (particularly this model-T nation). I worry that common core, though it offers quality control and an "industry standard"  for learning, will continue to push us educators toward sticking facts in kids' heads until they pass a test and secure our jobs. There is something lacking with that formula.
