Myths

Do we all know that there are myths out there.  Not ones about gods or demigods, but ones of new species.  We have all heard the basic myths such as Bigfoot, werewolf, vampires, etc..  Then there are extravagant ones such as bugman, etc...  I don't know a lot of extravagant ones myself, but still.  Anyway, what if they aren't myths?  What if we were wrong dismissing these mythical creatures as non-existent.  You may say we should have seen them by now, or that we would see signs of some sort.  But think harder.  About possibilities.  Think about all the species we have found sitting right under our noses, some things we didn't know existed or were even possible.  We may have found many animals, but along with those discoveries are even more species we have yet to uncover.  Whose to say these mythical creatures are simply species we haven't uncovered.  Or perhaps, we refuse to uncover due to our innermost fear that these creatures are real.

Disscus this possibility.

Oooo. What if god did exist? Then we'd all be killing children for talking back to us, murdering our neighbors for working on the sabbath and begging for forgiveness from a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak, vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent celestial dictator.

I shutter at the thought.

^^ Why I don't believe in organized religion. Some things just don't make sense so I don't shape my beliefs to my religion, I try to shape my religion to my beliefs.

And if god wasn't Jehovah?

Not quite sure I understand what you're getting at. I just was making a joke...about how crazy it is to believe in made-up things.

I know that this in this section we can express our feelings, and I will.

I'm personally a Christian. Although I will not refute anything anyone has said, as I wish to be respectful and not start a thread fight, I just want to say that it's not all like that. There are things I don't understand why in my religion, but I guess it's different. Idk what I'm saying.

I respect others opinions. And I will not insult them. I hope I can have the same respect.

But I'll get off this thread, and I apologize if I offended anyone

I found that quite offensive. :(
While it is true that people are killed in the name of God and heresy and sacrificed to false idols, I did not think that that rant was neccissary or relevant to the topic.

Everyone should take it easy. It was just a joke. I just listed all the crimes god commits and condones, pulled from the book he wrote (the bible is the literal word of god after all) for comedic effect. It seemed to suite the topic of myths very well.

My point was that god (if he exists), is a being whose existence is beyond empirical evidence. Your observation is based on the Hebrew interpretation of god, while I think of god as something that may or may not be there, we'll probably never know for sure. It is therefore silly to dismiss him based on the interpretation of an ancient civilization

How do we know a god could exist beyond empirical evidence? I found a fault in the foundation. I can say anything exists then, and we must respect my ideas, and not dismiss them as silly just because I believe them without evidence - like billions of people in this world do. I reject this claim.

:( while I understand it was a joke, it is more hurtful than funny to some people.

I agree that there are things in there even I don't agree with. I'm personally bi sexual and him destroying Sodom and Gommorah is very uncomfortable for me. (Although there are theories that wasn't the only reason, but I digress)

I apologize for not seeing it as a joke, and getting offended.

Agree to disagree?

And +1 for dealing with me

El chupacabre is a big thing in my surrounding territory. It would be neat if they were real.

Find a new god you're comfortable, with. Humans have been doing it for millennia. Or just make up your own - no one can prove you wrong!

...according to a narrow sect of Christianity that is slowly fading out. Most non-US Christians don't take the Bible literally anymore, nor do most non-Orthodox Jews. Perhaps if this were a fundamentalist dominated forum, your joke might be appropriate, but here it's kind of insulting, as I'd consider people here more sophisticated than that.

Which verse of the bible gives you the authority to interpret the bible as you see fit? Certainly it is not the bible itself, but societies need to outgrow its Iron Age philosophies.

Goat sucker...it doesn't have the same ring in English.

It sounds perverted hahah.

I also would like to think that unicorns were real at some point in time. And dragons.

I am quite comfortable with THE God. It is your accusations of God that make me uncomfortable.

I didn't write the bible, presumably your holy book. The god of Abraham did. You've got a bone to pick with him instead.
