Thoughts?
It's my favorite book series so far!
What are your thoughts and or recommendations for a good series to jump into besides the obvious ones like Game of Thrones, Eragon, LOTR, etc.

Mlerner12

ALL Tolkien books are just AMAZING, start with The Hobbit Tge Simillarion or The Children of Hurin!!!!!!!

Mikefrompluto

Rama series, 2001 Odyssey series, and A Time Odyssey by Arthur C. Clarke are all great if you like science fiction.

Boringanarchy2

The Martian chronicles are awesome.

Agrus Kos, Enforcer of Truth

Um, anything with Ray Bradbury is awesome.

MementoMori

I would start by dropping Eragon from that list.

Then, assuming sci-fi/fantasy is your angle, I'd look at everything else mentioned here, plus maybe His Dark Materials and The Dark Tower.

Agrus Kos, Enforcer of Truth

Hey, the Inheritence Cycle isn't that bad, although the movie was complete .poo.

MementoMori

Eragon was OK, but Eldest was such a trainwreck that I didn't bother with the rest when they came out.

Vampyvyrus

I'd recommend Jonathon Mayberry. I'm current on two of his series, just waiting for the new ones to come out. I first started reading Patient Zero (1st book in the Joe Ledger Novels) and fell in love with how well he puts together a story.after I got caught up on those I happened across his Rot and Ruin series...outstanding. Completely different take on the zombie apocalypse and extremely well written.

Langku

Wheel of time is long. It's good but I don't have the tenacity for it.

I recommend The Name of the Wind.

I'm going to look into all of these! And I enjoyed everything about the Inheritance Cyle books except for the ending!! Haha

Kareason

WoT is amazing. Gave 20 years of my life to it.

I would suggest the following series.

Shannara series by Terry Brooks
The Dark Tower by Stephen King
The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher
The original DraganLance books
Obviously Lord of the Rings
R.A. Salvatore's Drizzt series and Demon War/Corona Saga

For stand alone I would recommend anything by Neil Gaiman (American Gods being a personal Top 5). I also like Brandon Sanderson's stuff.

Will add more if I think of them.

Lover the Shannara series!!

I just started Fragile Things after reading every Neil Gaiman graphic novel the library had to offer. The book he wrote with Terry Pratchet is also great.

Speaking of, I've read the first five novels in the Rincewind story arc of the Discworld series. They are highly recommended if you like fantasy interjected with humor.

Also for stand alone reading, I've really been digging Joe Hill lately. His short story collection, 20th Century Ghosts, was great and I can't put down Heart Shaped Box.

Wow two of my favorite series, you just earned some mad respect. Also check out the Abhorsen series, good stuff. Also a guilty pleasure is the warriors series, books about clans of cats that fight for territory and to survive, it's just really well written and I've read most of the series lol.
