Would it be insane to want to organize by:

Set > color > rarity ~ with all rares separate?
I find it important to organize by what's most important to you.
My ~25000 card collection is sorted thusly:

Set > color > commons/uncommons > creatures/non-creatures > casting cost > alphabetically

Rares and u/c worth >$0.75 are in binders

But, hey, that's just how I roll. 8)

Honestly Jester, I don't think I have the patience or sanity for that. Hats off to you though. In an ideal world I would do the same or at least very similar.

BlackJester

I'm not going to lie, it took some time. But I didn't do it all at once. Its easier I maintain order on a regular basis than to reorganize the chaos after things become a mess.

NillaWafers

Yea, I used to have things in some sense of order. But then again, when your card pool suddenly and unexpectedly triples, whatcha gunna do? It's been my project to organize it these past couple months but honestly it makes me wanna cry sometimes. But hey, if I get my things in order then hopefully I can be of use to everyone here and share the fun.

BlackJester

Lolz. I'm sure organized or not you'd be of use here.

Maybe start by just organizing by set first. Once you have them in sets, you can always sort sets you don't really use much. I found it hard to sort sets that I keep building from. I have one of those long (2000 card?) cardboard card holders full of cards that need to get put away.  It's never empty.

NillaWafers

That's brilliant! About the constantly circulating but needs to be sorted box. I think I might be able to do this. I'll have to get a few more 4-slot boxes though. Ah well. Step by step right?

Rome wasnt build in a day.

So true especially when you buy random cheapos to get some commons that are good

Well for me, suddenly all the people around me stopped playing and said "hey you're still playing that game? want my cards?" because they knew the moment they moved out, their mother's would be tossing them anyways. So, lucky me. =D But yea it's always nice to get special surprises when you buy a lot.  ;D

Thanks for the help and ideas everyone. Or maybe for the help and encouragement?
  :P

BlackJester

No prob!
It seems like a lot of work, but I logged all my cards while watching tv at night. Now that I have my collection logged, it is hyper convenient!  I can build decks from my collection while waiting in a line somewhere and know exactly how many of a certain card I need.

I can only aspire to reach that same state of enlightenment!  :D

Yr an angel. Sounds pretty darn enlightened

NillaWafers

Hahaha!! I'm no angel. ^_~ Far from it! (But thanks.) I just think the new art for Akroma was awesome because she looks a little bit more creepy....and she was insane after all.
