There are quite a few servers and there is significane.

1. The regional data centers for each server is in two groups, na/eu and jp
2. The server you choose defines what players you can play with, the only way to play with people outside of your server is to use duty finder but that is all

So are you saying you should stick to your locale?

A fellow lancer! I got lancer to 20 and miner to 17.. The rest are between 5-11 except fishing, culinarian, and goldsmithing! Ended up going broke from crafting haha

Seriously though I don't ever think I saw it open up. I literally had to screw around on exodus until yesterday morning I woke up and was like "what, impromptu extension!! Leviathans up no way, I has college friends there!" -gets to lvl 10 in 2 & 1/2 hours-
Because I saw the entrance quests about 5 times....

Well I only got to play yesterday on a server that mattered somewhat. I at least have some irl college friends on leviathan.  But the exodus and faeire servers were practically a waste of time just to test the game

And if I'm not mistaken, balmung is the player designated role player server.  Check some forums, I know people take that seriously.

I had a character from 1.0 but I played thm and got that to 9, I wasn't in a rush to level, was just enjoying playin an mmo again
