Destroy all...

Ok something that has been bugging me for awhile is: when I play with my friends one of them uses a lot of "destroy all" spells. Now, other than countering the spell wouldn't something with shroud or hexproof not be effected by that?

My logic, most likely flawed, is the spell is still targeting the creature, land, ect. even though it says all, because say I have a creature with hexproof out and someone plays a "destroy all creatures." that spell is still targeting my creature but the card doesn't say "destroy all TARGET creatures." it still needs to designate that it is destroying a creature of mine which I see as targeting it.

Millionlittlee

No the spell has to say target to be stopped by hexproof. So destroy all still kills a hexproof/ shroud.

Paraluke

Well, indestructible would be unaffected :D

I guess I view hexproof or shroud as a cover to prevent someone from seeing you. If they can't see you they can't really target and hit you.

Now if you have a "destroy all"...like a nuclear bomb, I do not need to see you and still kill you.

Crapshooter

We actually just had a conversation like this at my card shop about color protection and general destruction. Take  {Blood Baron of Vizkopa}, can't be hit by  {Doom Blade} or  {Detention Sphere} but can be hit with  {Tribute to Hunger},  {Supreme Verdict} and  {Renounce the Guilds}, because none directly target him.

To clarify, {tribute to hunger} targets the player, he/she chooses which creature.

Try to think of it this way.

Hexproof/shroud means your creature has chameleon-like reflexes that allow him to avoid sight to be shot by a hunter's arrows.

What happens to the chameleon when the sun explodes? Does camouflage stop it from vaporizing with the rest of the planet?

Sorry but I can't help it, our sun is far too small to "explode" as a supernova if that was what you were referring to.  It will crumple into a white dwarf when is "dies".

Again sorry for going off topic and such,

I think you're missing the metaphor...

Anoobass

I got it... But I find sciency stuff really cool and I just couldn't keep myself from correcting.  I apologize for causing a problem.

Deebiia

Understood, I guess it's more of a problem for me cause my friends decks almost always have some "destroy all..." cards and I was trying to find a viable defense against it than just countering seeing as how I mainly play white and green.

I may just make a deck of like darksteel cards, cause being indestructible seems to be a great defense. If anyone knows a good "indestructible" type of deck, I would like to look at it.

Paraluke

Use  {Rootborn Defenses} for sideboard, as an example.

Or  {Indestructibility} if you wanna protect "a chosen one".
