Ok. I have 3 debatable slots in my Gruul standard. I can't decide whether to run  {Pillar of Flame} or  {Mizzium Mortars}. I can see the pros and cons of each, but I can't seem to reach a consensus. Any help will be appreciated. For reference, my deck runs 22 lands, 4  {Domri Rade}, 3  {Mutavault}, I  {Kessig Wolf Run}. Everything else is pretty much a stock list, except no  {Madcap Skills}

I'd go with mizzium mortars, personally. It's one more mana but twice the damage in one card, letting you take out 3/3s and 4/4s with it. And if you survive to mid-late game vs bant hexproof somehow, mortars can actually kill their dudes sometimes with overload.

{Mizzium Mortars}, they are both sorceries so that isn't something to look at, you have green so I am assuming you won't have too many problems with mana and Mizzium Mortars is more flexible because it deals more damage (so it can kill more) and it has overload. Although if you still can't decide, run 2 and 1.

Mizzium also won't rotate since you mentioned standard

Just for consideration Pillar handles {Voice of Resurgence} very nicely.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I decided on mortars, and they worked wonderfully. Also, I didn't see a single  {Voice of Resurgence}. I didn't do well, missed out on top 8 by tiebreakers. Prize pack of M14 had two rares in it,  {Bonescythe Sliver} and foil  {Garruk, Caller of Beasts}. I was glad for that. Everyone said I had won then lol.

Ask yourself this, how do you deal with a turn 2/3 {Loxodon Smiter}?

I like Mizz a lot more and if it is a late game draw you can clear the board.

I could have used a {Mizzium Mortar} last night against that damn Elf Deck. I hate that .loving. deck.
