How do you get into commander?

it is by far my favorite format.  so much fun and all of the craziness that goes along with having 5 or 6 people in a pod.  picking alliances, endless situations.  some crazy good combos and just all and all a good time. 
try and make a deck that is fun to play and you will have a good time.  its not all about winning!

You can get your inner Johnny/Timmy out. Crazy expensive costed cards are easier to play, long drawn out combos are easier, and it's cheaper. While certain EDH staples are expensive - you only need one. I write all about it in the Commander guide in the commander sub forum

I made a commander deck and confirmed with my friends that they would too. They backed out, and after having absolutely zero chances to play with it, I sold the deck. A week ago my friend built a freaking commander deck and asked me to make one (the same one that had backed out earlier). I'm like 😡🔫

something similar happened to me. My friend built a commander deck and I knew that it was pretty popular so I built one. Because it is eternal, I put quite a bit of money into it but then my friend took his apart. Luckily, another friend is trying to build one and I know at least one person at my LGS plays.

^^^Yay!!! I can finally use my commander deck! The deck Chris is putting together is going to take forever...

A lot of LGS host commander leagues. I played in one. Every week there would be a list of achievements you could complete. Like "remove three commanders from the game" "kill everyone in one turn"  "have 20 creatures in play". We got points for each achievement then at the end of the league prizes were handed out based on points!  Tons of fun.

thanks for the help, but my LGS is kind of lazy. For a couple of months they were even delinquent and didn't get stuff for the M14 prerelease or FNM Promos. I will finally get to play my first Commander game Friday though, against a guy at FNM on the off time.
