I recently bought a couple bokken. A couple of friends and I have practiced, but with painful results. I'm looking for a thin layer of armor to cover the torso, arms, and legs so we can spar at 100%. Does anyone here practice? What kind of armor do you find best? I'm thinking about going with Century Gear. I don't think I want to spend that much though, Any budget options?

Thanks for the help.

Bokken?

Japanese wooden sword. Boku = wood, Ken = sword. Used typically as a practice weapon or in martial arts.

It's a weapon full stop, not just for practice. I believe Musashi won most of his duels with it.

My buddies and I used to use our old hockey gear for bokken sparring. But if you have the cash, actual sparring gear can be purchased either online or from a sports equipment store.

Kendo. And kendo gear is easy enough to find on ebay and the like. But it can be pricey. Hockey gear works in a pinch. But those bokens are not "practice" swords as much as they are a weapon in their own right. You can seriously injure yourself and others and I cannot emphasize caution enough. However, no warrior ever learned anything playing it safe. Maybe patience. Lol. But the threat of actual physical harm is a much needed lesson that should be learned for the purpose of real-world applications.

You could always pad the bokken

Can you train swimming without water?

Yes, use syrup it's thicker and therefore you swim harder and faster and when you get in water you'll be much faster

We practice Kendo. I don't want to practice without armor, so we've been primarily focused on hand-to-hand striking and grappling arts. Dim Mak and Judo have been the most fun. I think i found some armor I'm going to invest in. I could pad the bokken, but I would still want armor for sparring. It was said earlier, we want to train hard and be safe at the same time.

This is my opinion and my opinion only. Having boxed and studied Brazilian jiu-jitsu for about 8 years I have come up with the mentality that I want to train and I want to train hard, I want to hurt after, in training this way it trains your mind and your body to be ok in a bad situation. If you get your azz beat a couple times a week, what is some dude at a bar that is not NEARLY as bad as the guys you train with regularly going to do to you? Nothing you haven't seen already, that's what. Man up. (Again, that's my opinion), sorry if I offend anyone. Mind you, stay safe, Permanent damage is OBVIOUSLY not wanted, the force has to increase gradually with the bodies adaption.

Naturally. I'm sure as we get better, the training will naturally increase in intensity, By that time we'll have built up our stamina and endurance.
