Why does everybody hate thragtusk so bad?  Must be all Aggro players.  Lol

Kaleo42

A green deck cant play the game without {thragtusk}.

Naya Blitz does not play the game, it ends it or loses in 3-4 turns.

prayos

I think that thanks to {Mutavault}, it might be heavily tribal.

No? Thrag is just unanswerable without a counter spell. Way too much value for a card that is literally so easily splashable. And no matter what, it dodges board wipes, exiles, removal, blocks... You play thragtusk and can basically sit back an chill. Then people seem to always draw 2-3 in a game, so it basicaly singlehandedly can win them games 50% of the time if not more. {aetherling} is similarly uninteractable, but then again you need 7 mana to safely cast(1 for the exile effect} including 3 {U} mana symbols, making it much less prevalent. But thragtusk deserves every bit of hate, it puts non {G} decks a mile below

MisterJH

The angel isnt even a thingfor me, without thragtusk they usually dont get the full effect f yhe angel im my experience

Silent1236

Post is only slightly related:

I wonder what standard would have been like if Thraggy said "When it enters the GY."  While still powerful, there are no blinking shenanigans.

Yeah i sat across the table as someone cloudshifted 2 times, then hit it with a resto angel. I just scooped right then and there, complete bullshittigans hahaha.

MisterJH

Yea i know, thats where i think it screwed up big time... Otherwise itd still be a powerful card, for sure. But not nearly as bad. But then again blinking would sill give 5 life every time which sucks.. But owell

MisterJH

Perhaps 'whenever it ETB from your hand' or something. Itd still be a good card

Yeah it's just op no matter how you change the text haha.

I've heard rumors about reprint in m14? True/false?

MisterJH

If they do im quitting, but theres no support for this rumor atm as far as i can tell.. Simply wishful thinking insofar, but i wouldnt be surprised if WotC pulled some stupid BS like that

Dudecore

{Thragtusk} and the "leaves the battlefield" caveat is the worst part. Luckily {Voice of Resurgence} doesn't have this, and it is slightly tolerable.

I honestly don't know if they were pushing Thragtusk hard during development - a 5 mana 5/3 isn't typically a great thing, I'm sure they INTENDED it to be in a card exploited by {Roaring Primadox} that hosed control.

I think that basically Midrange needs something like Thragtusk, they often get beat down by aggro too fast to recover, and don't have access to {Sphinx's Revelation} or {Supreme Verdict}. But I'd prefer to see a new card move into that spot, something that is tuned down 1 knotch.

MisterJH

Yea, i dont mind there being good midrange cards, just hate that its the superpower allstar midrange card that goes in every deck ever, gains 10-15 life and give 4 freakin cretures for 5 mana.. Its stupid

Dudecore

Also, almost every color combination has an instant answer to  {Angel of Serenity}.

Black has {Ultimate Price}, {Devour Flesh}, {Far // Away}, soon to be {Doom Blade}.

Red/Blue has {Turn // Burn}.
Black/Red has {Dreadbore}
Black/Green has {Putrefy}
Black/Blue has {Warped Physique}
Blue has {Pongify} (whatever the new name is)

I'm sure I can come up with more. The way the Serenity triggers on the stack makes it a pretty awesome play to destroy it before the ability resolves.

MisterJH

{rapid hybridization} ^

And yea, thrags benefits are already gotten by the time most decks have a chance to respond.. That SOB -.-

If theros is mono-color i think {aetherling} will be the next thraggy if blue gets supported well though
