Can an opponent with a planeswalkers choose to take the damage that you want to go to that planeswalker? Like say my opponent plays Karn Liberated
And I want to get it dealt with quickly so I attack him.
Can they choose to basically block their planeswalker with themselves?

Mothaelon

No. A planes walker is a player. A player can't intercept damage for another player.

Keyeto

No. If you attack a planeswalker and they do not block, that planeswalker will take the damage. Their PW cannot take damage for them, and they cannot take damage for their PW.

Thanks alot I tried to tell my opponent that....I need to find and play games other than casual where people actually know the rules.

It's all about the people, really. I play nothing but casual (and EDH), and I'd like to think I know my way around a rule or two ;)

Have them read the basic rulebook a couple times through or tell them to give iMtG a look for some rules knowledge (there's a desktop version if they don't have an iDevice). It seems like it could save you a lot of explaining!

Tell them to play the magic duels of the planes walkers it helps breakdown the rules and it's also pretty fun. Especially with the M14 game coming out on June 26th.

That's the online magic right? I thought it cost money to play? Or is that just for consoles
See me and my friends don't like paying more than we have to for magic :p but I always tell them to get this app but they have Androids :/ not iPods.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! That's my birthday! Lol

NuclearChicken

Yes but it's only like 10$ and its pretty fun. You learn a lot new tricks and get to customize decks. Plus you can draft which is a TON of fun.

Duels of the planeswalkers is (to my understanding) a cheaper wsy to play online that does not have that competitive nature. Almost like magic with training wheels.

MTGO (magic the gathering online) is the electronic version of the competitive game that does cost a lot more to keep up.
