this all day. I have won so many games with just a {Strangleroot Geist} and a {Rancor}

Maybe add a couple Alpha Authority in there to give your big creatures hexproof  and your opponent won't be able to double block them. Also strangleroot geist is awesome. Cheap, and haste with undying, can't get any better than that. Will help early on for blocks if you don't wanna sacrifice your elves.

The Geist will also evolve your gyre sage twice!

Not enough land. Especially considering how your mana curve tops out at 8. Even the fastest deck in the format runs 20 lands. You want to be in the 22-25 land area if your going to keep all the top end threats in there. Otherwise your going to have a lot of cool stuff to cast and no mana to cast them with.

With 16 elves, arbor elf, gyre sage and elvish Archdruid he had plenty of mana.

Not is he wants to consistently cast Craterhoof. I have an all Elf deck chocked full of Elves with 3 Craterhoofs, and I still run 22 Lands. There is a lot o removal in Standard, if they take out a mana dork, then he's got some trouble.
