Proxy cards in a casual format should not be that big of a deal.  As someone who makes proxy cards and altered art cards I can understand why players who spend the $ get mad about expensive proxy cards. But who wants to spend 100's of dollars on a casual format??
Atleast in legacy and standard you have sanctioned events so the money invested can net a return in value.

In casual format, you're right. People could play with a deck of UNO cards for all I care. It's kitchen table ante and sanctioned events where these fools come in with half a deck of proxies and that really gets under my skin.  I don't even go to small town events anymore cause there's never a judge there and owner is their buddy or something. City events only.  If its a game for fun, who cares, but if something is at stake, leave your proxies in the recycle bin where you found them lol.

End rant...

What about te gold border world tour cards?? They are not tournament legal but would u still throw a fit if they were playing those instead of proxies?

Double-O-Scotch

In casual play, I don't mind. But again, if there are things at stake, no freaking way. That's what things like cockatrice is for. "I'll just pretend like I have all the rarest, most expensive cards ever made" no way.
Magic has been an investment for me and I've spent alot of time and money trying to get the cards I need/want. It's not fair to the people who have dished out the cash if just anyone can scribble on a piece of paper and write mox emerald on it.

I'm ok with proxies as long as I feel the card is attainable... So if they show up with moat I call BS on that

I understand EDH is a casual format but when you proxy cards so your ok deck becomes a monster then I have a problem, and so do the people I play with. Rule of thumb if you want to proxy and play a deck just to dominate and demoralize your opponent then you've missed the whole point of the format.

I have used proxies, but they were for play testing. If they worked in the deck then I spent the money and bought a card if not then trash can file cabinet here it comes. He'll I even proxied a .12 cent card to test because that particular deck was the only one I wanted that card in.

It all boils down to the people you play with. If your regular group is fine with it then go for it, but when you play someone new TELL THEM. If someone walks into Nerdy Stuff and tells me they have a deck with proxies in it and they explain why then I will probably play them. If I get ambushed by a proxy deck I would probably scoop and tell them to e'F off. Just sayin.

Very good points, and probably a good set of rules to go by. I think when you go super spike and make a monster deck you are playing a different game than i likeanyhow, and I wouldn't want to play you, proxies or not.
