I'm pretty sure my next commander is going to be Thraximundar, so I was just looking for some help with ideas for the deck.  {Thraximundar}

Well you can start with  {Grimgrin, Corpse-Born},  {Gravecrawler}, and  {Rooftop Storm}. From there I would add  {Tezzeret the Seeker} and add the three artifact lands that go with his colors. Plus add in some tutors like  {Vampiric Tutor},  {Demonic Tutor}, and  {Diabolic Tutor}. Finish it off with the  {Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth} and  {Cabal Coffers} land combo and a  {Cavern of Souls} for fun measure.  {Splinter Twin} just copy more zombies and then play  {Unbreathing Horde}. That is just a good start.

I'm a huge fan of {slave of bolas} for grixis colours. Gets around indestructibility and other such annoyances, but not before spanking your opponent first...lol

Thraximundar's biggest weakness (in my opinion) is his heavy mana cost. Adding mana ramp to get him on the board before everyone has a dozen answers for him waiting in their hands is crucial, and lacking green makes ramping tough. But not impossible! Be sure to have artifacts that ramp, like {Armillary Sphere}, and mana rocks like {Chromatic Lantern} to help get you there quicker.

Second most important is protecting him. You'll need counterspells (likely to counter their counterspells when you cast him) and shroud/hexproof. {Whispersilk Cloak} may even be better than {lightning greaves} since Thrax already has haste on his own.

Everyone pretty much covered what I wanted to say, but I'll still throw in some suggestions. I sometimes switch out for Thraximundar as my commander, so I'll tell you what works in my experience. First off, I turned away from spot removal. Cards like {Innocent Blood}, {Chainer's Edict}, {Diabolic Edict}, {Barter in Blood}, and the heavier {Cruel Ultimatum} or {Curse of the Cabal} are great for removal, and pump up Thrax at the same time! {Sheoldred, Whispering One} is a great addition, and can help with the "each player sacs" effects, as well as {Grave Titan}. {Braids, Cabal Minion} is worth a mention, but isn't always going to get you what you need. Any Eldrazi are great, since they have Annihilator. If they don't want to pump Thrax, they'll have to kill their lands or other permanents (which Grixis struggles with). {Prince of Thralls} acts as a "pay 3 life or I steal your creature" and {Blood Tyrant} is just mean enough to maybe take any eye or two off of Thrax for a moment. {Malfegor} can be a game ender, and I'm also fond of cards like {Fleshbag Marauder} or {Slum Reaper}. As already stated, keeping him protected is very important, one of my personal favorites is {Price of Glory} with {Teferi's Veil}. He's protected on their turns, provided you attack (come on, you probably will), and if they want to do something about him on your turn, they have to kill their lands (which could become yours with {Prince of Thralls})!
Hope this helped!

Very cool ideas guys, but the one thing I worry about is field wipes especially in the group I play with, any ways to prevent them besides the obvious counterspells?

Bman0121

 {It That Betrays} or  {Lim-Dûl the Necromancer} to steal whatever they sac

{Darksteel Plate}, {Eldrazi Monument}, and {That Which Was Taken} can all make him indestructible. Another way would be to let him go to the graveyard, and toss in a couple reanimation spells in case he dies. It'd be a lot nicer to recast him for four mana from the grave, than his whole mana cost plus more from the command zone!
