Spiteful shadows questions

I want to know how the card called spiteful shadows from dark ascension works. What counts as damage? Do -1/-1 counters count as damage to creatures? If so, would tragic slip be a card combo to use? Please help {Spiteful Shadows}  {Tragic Slip}

Thing like lightning bolt count as damage... -1/-1 counters do not... Resolved?

Then you would not be able to indestructible creatures with -1/-1 stuff.
