Responding to my own post here but I think good counter spells are what make this game function. If there are decks that can win turn 1, why shouldn't I have a turn 1 counter for that?

NyghtHawk

What modern decks win turn 1?

None that I know of.

Barzini

I personally dont run counterspells at all in casual games. Not many people like playing against counters.

The blistercoil weird combo deck can win turn one I'm pretty sure, I might be wrong.

I wasn't saying modern specifically. Just responding to his claim that counter spells are not fun to play against. I think they're important to make sure the game doesn't get out if hand.  {Force of Will} being the only turn 0 counter spell is nerve racking as well since there are numerous turn 1 win decks in legacy. If you don't have a  {Force of Will} or can't afford them, you just don't get to play an that sucks.

Legacy isn't that diabolical. {Force of Will} keeps the format honest, doesn't mean you HAVE to actually have it in your deck - it's the idea that you might. If {Force of Will} was actually in everyone's deck, everyone would win by playing blue, it just isn't true.

I see your point but how many top 8 or top 16 decks in competitive tournaments don't play any blue?

Dudecore

Stoneblade is still doing well, those decks play {Force of Will}. The meta is always changing, and the region tournaments are played in generally dictate what players play. Blue is a hugely popular color - because it's the only way to reliably stop a huge combo, but sometimes combo decks are 70% of the decks. It really depends.

{Force of Will} is the glue that holds the format together, and it's a real shame that Wizards is letting it die because of the reserve list.

I've still got my playset from when I was playing back in the 90's otherwise I wouldn't have an opportunity to get them at the price they are now. I think I paid $6 for all 4.

Dudecore

I've got 6 of them myself. I was trading for 2 more, that is when I got ripped off by Kuberr. I think that modern could use {Force of Will}, it is uncommon and not on the reserve list...

Freerthanu

I will cry if FOW reprints. I own 12, and they probably would drop hard.

Mikefrompluto

Anyone seen that video on YouTube of that guy that owns like 2 or 3% of all the {force of will}s printed? He's in for it if it sees a reprint.

Freerthanu

The only reason I own 12 is because a friend and I share a collection. No one else in our area can really afford to play legacy so we end loaning alot of cards out, otherwise I would sell a playset.

Mikefrompluto

Well that's mighty nice of ya.

Freerthanu

I really enjoy legacy, its just that so few people have the money for the cards. I finished my LANDS deck last year and I think I have got to play it like maybe 4 times in a sanctioned tourney.
