Where do you live?? I wish they sold booster boxes at prereleases. I wish they had shirts to sell for gatecrah rtr. And just like a cool fun place to hang all day and play magic

I live in Tampa Florida an I like the short idea for diffrent sets that's definitely something I would look into doing

I unfortunately don't a game store very close to me that I like. The main problem I have with the one that's close to me: The employees don't have to know anything about the products they sell. I can understand this to a degree, but it would be really nice if they could give suggestions, talk about the game with you, or even help you out if you forget the name of a card. But these guys know NOTHING. I usually know what I want when I go there, but man, it would be nice if they at least knew something. That being said, customer service is really important to me. I know it's not something "different" compared to other stores, but keep it in mind. Thus coupled with their overall rude additude has lost them several customers.

Thank you for that I will keep that in mind I am going to be starting small just enough space to fill 15 people and run Fnm and such until I get larger I will be hiring people but they will at least need to know the game and keep up with it you can't run a card store if you don't know what a card is ;)

I'm lucky i guess.. My shop is run by two guys who know a lot about every product in their shop. Both of them play magic and have for a long time and even tho there are just two guys running it the customer base really helps them out especially when it's just one owner or the other on a given day.

Lol explain you lost me there

He is getting a bigger space 3 times bigger. Every week for 7 days, mtg players can come in, sit down and play magic with other people. On friday he is actually doing fnm and saturday tournaments. And he is becoming a WPN person so he is having prereleases too!

That's sounds great, maybe I'm just unlucky 😕

Another thing I don't like us how unapproachable the employees are. They usually stare at their laptops, and don't acknowledge you as you walk in. It feels like you're bothering them when you ask to make a purchase or a trade (which, by the way, one of the employees can't do trades or buys, not even sure why they're there).

As for good ideas though, my buddy has a great lgs. He says that they have couches and a couple game systems for customers to relax and play. It's a place to play magic, hang out, and get some gaming in too. It really draws in the customers. Heck, with that, you could also host some small gaming tournaments as well. It might be a bit expensive if you're just starting off, but I'd at least consider it for when you have the funds. It's apparently brought in a lot of customers, and even better, perhaps; loyal customers.

I'd love to run my own hobby shop. Like that's one of the things on my list of top jobs. Sure it may not be a top paying job but it certainly is rewarding.

Thank you all for your suggestions some more would be appreciated maybe things you haven't seen but would be in your dream lgs

Dont think they are allowed to sell boxes at prerelease, hence it's a PRERELEASE.  Not able to buy them yet.

Tshirts  maybe as a store you can work out a deal with mtgmerch.com and get items at a reduced price or talk to wizards

Nope, I'm in OH. Sorry to hear someone shares the pain (at least partially). It can get pretty inconvenient. I once had to wait 3 and a half hours to do a trade, waiting for the other employees to get there.
