For the red card to complete the 2 drop cycle what effect would it need? I was thinking something like at the beginning of your upkeep ? deals 2 damage to target creature or player. 2/1 of course.

It would have to at least be as good as {Hellspark Elemental}.

Would a  {Hellspark Elemental} that didn't get exiled after being unearthed be too good?

Most definitely.

thats a good strategy. Unearth the elemental, then vanish it so it stays in play

Where is {vanish in to memory} useful? I think it can be used for getting a few extra cards, but you also have to throw them away when it comes back.
Could also be good for something like  {Primordial Hydra}

Darius

Well, it seems that the card is either going to be an enchantment or a land.

Gotta go with enchantment. There are so many possibilities there to be creative with wild, new things. With land, it feels a bit more restricted - what can a land potentially do that an enchantment couldn't potentially do and then some? Not have a mana cost, I guess, sure, but that's being greedy! And that greed comes with a price of what the card's power level comes to.

I want to take this challenge and make up something creative, and balanced with the land thing. Though I agree there is more design space with enchantment, and that will probably be what gets choosen. I'm sure whatever gets made will be cool

When is the next voting?

The current vote (Echantment vs. Land) ends Friday I believe. Then I assume the next vote (color?) starts Monday.
