The other day, I introduced my cousin to magic. He had been familiar with the game, but not Planeswalkers. He was dumbfounded when I played Garruk, Primal Hunter, thinking he was extremely overpowered. What do you guys think? Should Planeswalkers be banned? Are they truly O.P.?

No, no idea why u even posted this

I hated the idea of planeswalkers when I first got back into magic, but I'm getting used to it now. To keep the game fresh for 20 years they've had to make changes like adding planeswalkers.

Planes walkers add another element to the game, albeit not an instant game changer, as well as having answers to them available now. They aren't OP, just need answers like everything else

I think {Jace, the mind sculpter} taught Wizards to not make game-changing 'walkers hahah.

Planeswalkers have a glass jaw. There are a lot of answers to them when they come out on the table. Some flyers, unblockables, damage spells, a baby jace, {oblivion ring}...the list goes on. I do feel that they added a rich new dimension to the multiverse, though.  The game feels like there is a great story taking place and having the lead actors in play enhances that effect for me.

Planeswalkers are some of the most fun-to-play-with cards in Magic, and should definately stay. I just hope that Wizards isn't permanently afraid of another JtMS coming to Standard, and don't dumb down their future planeswalkers.

I don't mean to sound ignorant, but why is  {Jace, the Mind Sculptor} so over bearing? Just a FYI I started really playing around a month before dark ascension dropped.

His -1 lets you control the field, while his +0 and +2 let you decide what you or your opponent draw.

He lets you control your opponent's draw, he can give you draw power for free once you drop him, and he can bounce troublesome creatures. There's hardly a blue deck that can't benefit from putting him in. And on top of that, if you somehow manage his ult, there's no recovering from getting your library exiled. Planeswalkers hardly ult unless you build around protecting them, but still.

And as for the OP, I think a lot if their initial power was mental. For a while, people didn't really know how to handle then. Whether it was confusion with their rules, or just seeing a new card type. Now that we've been seeing them for a while, it isn't so bad. We know how to take care of them, and when (usually). And WotC have been giving us answers (such as {Dreadbore}) which helps as well.

Definitely was confused when I came back to game and saw these guys, some can seem very powerful, but in the overall scheme of things I feel it's just a powerful creature you need to eliminate from the field. It's like any artifact that has more priority of being destroyed before it gets out hands.

Planeswalkers are amazing, not OP though, although an unchecked walker can dominate the board, still not unstoppable. I've had many a game where my {Liliana of the Veil} just wrecked my opponent, and {Ajani Vengeant}, oh god, I love that guy!!! Like everyone else Is saying, Planeswalkers are a great addition to a fantastic game.

I've heard him described as:
+2-cheat
0-cheat
-1-cheat
-12-win by having opponent cry in corner.

Also one of the few planeswalkers that can protect itself.
