My problem is this: my friend and I want to start EDH, but I want to play for the fun of it, and he wants to be more competitive. What EDH deck would be fun to play, but still competitive enough that I could beat him?

I recommend  {The Mimeoplasm}. Really fun deck plus it's competitive right out if the box.

Idk but he usually plays to win, he doesn't like combo decks or stuff like that.

Probably playing {Kaalia of the Vast} with tons of equipment. Just play a bunch of counterspells, and just bury her when she comes out.
