There are two reasons to do a prerelease, just have fun and get to know the cards, or win and save a lot of money on buying the cards you need for what you want to play.

I'm going to try and make it to the second round, gotta top 8 to move on. I constantly come in 9th out of 50ish. It's so agrivating.

Me and my teammate take prerelease very seriously in our planning and research, but keep it toned down during play unless we run up against someone being overly serious in which case we bust out our GP play styles and blow them out. We're their to win packs so we dont have to spend any more money on sealed product, but we remember that most people are their for fun and are happy to have small talk and fun games at the table. We take the construction part where other people aren't involved super seriously so that we can relax during play yet still consistantly top 8.

I was right...everything I said rang true at my prerelease. I bled my opponents and fast! Simic couldnt measure up cause I didnt need combat to drain their life and 2/3 fliers werent a problem. They couldnt evolve fast enough or effective enough. Didnt see a dimir make it anywhere. Gruul was a adverage performer from what I saw. Boros and orzhov at the top.  {Vizkopa Guildmage} made for some amazing interactions with {Boros Reckoner} and  {Devour Flesh}. That second ability freaking kills.

So I shouldn't count on evolve as my main route to victory. Got it

Birdbrain

Just out of curiosity. Did any of the simic people draft {kraken hatchling}? That seems like it would have been a smart move on there part. It's a beast with simic cards

Birdbrain

Personally. I hope to get {kraken hatchling} most out of any of the cards. Then I'll fill my deck with lots of high powe low toughness cards. And hopefully that will be enough. Wish me luck, the event starts in two hours in my town

Kaleo42

Hatchling isnt in gatecrash...

Birdbrain

It's in the 2013 set. And when my friend bought a golgari event deck he pulled a {thragtusk}. Which isn't in return to ravnica

Birdbrain

Dang...well. Guess I shouldn't rely on evolve for my main victory condition then. Lol

Yup, pulling multiples of that card won matches. That being said, {smite} and other removal in Orzhov (especially when combined with Boros) made short work of those stupid over powered dorks. Everything I said rang true in the three prereleases I did today. I went  4-1, 4-1, and 3-2.

The first one had a poor pool but I made it work.
The second one had everything I could ask for and I only lost because of the worlds worst possible draws and opponent's top decks. He is a really good player and we looked at eachother's decks and agreed that I should've won hands down, but he hit everything he could ask for from his crappy pool and I missed many land drops out of otherwise keepable hands.
The last one I got literally three cards with the word "extort" on them including the promo. I didn't get enough of anything else to build something good so I was stuck with a bad white weenie deck that splashed black and red cause I didn't have enough weenies.

I'll post our trade spoils and pulls in my binder tomorrow.

I went 5-2 with Simic, Round 1 got blown out by a janky Boros deck with stupid top decks, this guy was running 60 cards... It was unbelievable luck, he curved out perfect both games. Second round I had am extremely good match against my buddy who was running Orzhov, game 3 I dealt 20 damage and he ended with 20 life v.v lol. The other 5 rounds I just outplayed everyone else, some games were super grindy but I held back when I should have and never over extended. My pull was really good though. I also figured out that {Ooze Flux} + {Evasive Krasis} is a really dumb combo.

I would love to build a deck around {Ooze Flux} but it's so costly, 4 mana in constructed seems kinda meh. Idk.

I had the same thing for my third sealed, picked Gruul thinking smash face. Magic gods said no. Out of the box only 3, including promo, had Bloodrush... So frustrating!
