Gotcha. If you change it so he can save himself though all your opponent has to do is kill him twice before the upkeep trigger. Just a thought. He's pretty sweet as is.
I'm just erring on the side of caution. I've heard numerous people complain about {Marchesa, the Black Rose} as a commander and how she is quite hard to kill.

At the beginning of each upkeep, randomly select a nonland permanent, then roll a die.  One of the following effects will happen to the selected card.
1: Destroy the selected permanent(s).
2: The selected permanent(s) is industructible until the end of the turn.
3: Selected permanent(s) may not attack, block, or activate abilities until the end of the turn
4: Gain control of the selected permanent(s) until the end of the turn, if it is a creature, it gains haste until the end of the turn.
5: Search the owner(s) of the selected permanent's library for a card of the same name.  Exile that card.
6: Randomly select another target, along with other targets already chosen this turn by Hakar, the Drunken King, and reroll the die.
