There is already a thread about him with a bit of discussion on it, if you want to read up/contribute to the discussion.

I think he looks good on paper because all you care about is "exile everythingballz". But really, what's your opponent going to do?

Ignore him and keep swinging at you. Is he close to his ultimate? Okay now I cast the removal I have been holding. Ge basically just sits there and does nothing. He can't even block. No evasion.

The old gideon has good because he gained a good amount of loyalty while FORCING the opponent to attack him instead of you, then removing the creatures! The new one does not suck up damage for you. He is just a slow time bomb that nobody will have to deal with until he has a large amount of counters.

And by the way, {Thragtusk} > Gideon's ultimate....unless he ultimates with 17 or more counters. But if he is able to get that many, then that means your opponent has an army...which killed you by now.

Plus him up then  {Supreme Verdict}. Best I see. Control the field and have a beat stick. He gives white a 4 creature that can pack a punch.

That wa a Core Set, different printing rules than that of a block
