Neighbor had the pistol version, it was cool the first time we shot, but definitely lost its luster.  I have put too much money into the AR platform to change.  (Eotech, Magpul, Tango Down and 4 rifles).
Rifles are fun, but right now I am saving for an STI 1911.  I have one STI now, but they seem to reproduce quickly.

I have a Sig556. They are a bit heavy, but fantastic weapon system. A pleasure to shoot. Slap an eotech on there and it feels like cheating.
Yea they are a little front heavy but I have to imagine the piston/bolt combo adds some weight and takes what little recoil there is from a .223 and allows faster target acquisition.  I have not had a chance to shoot one yet....hopefully mine is in before the weekend.  How does it compare to a traditional M4 style AR?
Please tell me it's chambered in 5.56 but you shoot .223. It's a dream, I would recommend a traditional vertical foregrip over something like an AFG, but only for weight purposes. Shoots amazing, eats anything you slap in the magwell. A bit counterintuitive switching from an M4 to manipulate the bolt, recoil is very low, muzzle flip isn't half bad either.

Haha pun intended, check out my birthday present:  http://blythesgungear.com/catalog_detail.php?product_id=25588

So I am ex Army and my other hobby is guns.....cool guns 😎 This is kind of like a new version of the M16.  The M16 is gas tube operated and requires a buffer tube that goes through the stock and limits how short the back end of the gun can be.  This new version is similar to the M249 SAW, google it, which is a belt fed machine gun.  This Sig Sauer 556 I am getting is gas piston operated like the M249 and it allows you to eliminate that buffer tube and I believe it will fire more reliably....not that the m16 is unreliable.  I want the folding stock option and I was going to buy a Black Widow AK47 but I am not a big fan of the AK's accuracy.....you sacrifice accuracy for more reliability with the AK.  Like I said the M16 is reliable but you can literally dump sand into the bolt of an AK while it is firing and it will not jam.....but you try to reach a point target at 300 meters everytime and the M16 will outperform everytime.

While it is an AWESOME birthday present I personally hate the 223 cal. 7.62 mm full metal jacket. I like rounds that drop thier targets and keep them down. Hence why I absolutely love the .45 ACP over the pussy 9mm. Just MHO thought. Is the wife/gf buying that for you? Cuz that would be so ober cool.

The argument of 7.62x39 vs 5.56 rages on!
I own a very modified AK and a about the same amount of "modified" M4. Both are good solid rounds, I'll skip ahead and get to the major bullet points (pun intended) of the argument:
Pro ak- manstopper round, piston system much more reliable than direct gas impingement, accurate at "assault distance" or within 250 meters.
Pro M4- much more accurate round, especially over range, by the time you are within point target accuracy of an ak, you have been inside M4 range for almost 600 meters, lighter recoil/inherently less muzzle flip/easier to control, can carry more rounds with less weight than the AK.
