With people settling into rtr now, i would like to compile a list of competitive archetypes with a brief explaination of each. This can serve as a source of ideas for deck building and what to sideboard against. Please avoid getting to specific so that the reader can imagine and build on their own should they run with an idea from here.

Red black aggro

These decks are very fast and can steal a win game one against nearly every deck in the format. With a curve that almost always allows for a turn one and turn two filled with creatures ready to attack and burn, haste, or life drain ready to back up the following turns, this deck is scary fast and very unforgiving of the opponent's play mistakes or missed land drops. With access to 4 different viable one drop creatures and a variety of 4cmc and under finishers the only thing this deck doesnt want to draw is more than 3-4 land.

What were you trying to say?

GW(u) these decks are midrange powerhouses. Sometimes using the new populate mechanic to slowly build an unstoppable army, using EtB creatures along with "flashout" mechanics to control the game, or a more controlling build with only a few creatures that have a huge effect on the board(see: {Thragtusk} ) they also have access to some really great sideboard cards, especially graveyard hate

UW {rest in peace}

This deck seems a little janky at first glance, but is actually a preemptive strike on the meta. Much of te favored mechanics are completely shut down by one single card. Undying, flashback, dies effects, {snapcaster mage}, shuffling back or reusing graveyard cards in any way, and of course reanimater. Combine this with access to the wrath an stall offered by white and the counter measures offered by blue such as {cyclonic rift} and {syncopate} as well as all the draw needed to get those cards and it's difficult for any deck to adapt against this oddity in the meta. Oh and did i mention it has a 3/3 flyer that comes back indefinately? {misthollow griffin} has a purpose.

I would give it some more time. Let some things stablize, pro tour and some StarCity tournaments before we really know what the meta is gonna look like. Things are pretty unstable currently, some people are just seeing these cards, and Gatecrash is coming out in February.

It would be a nice write-up. I've got a similar post idea planned for the Standard Sideboard. With the top 5 archetypes, and their 15 sideboard options vs. the other 4 decks. Help is always appreciated.

This bares repeating, and maybe it isn't perfect, but if these conversations can be put into the "Standard Chat Thread" stickied to the top it has a chance of staying relevant. I've noticed this forum moves so quickly with new decks, and comments on decks that these talking points tend to get lost.

As this is preliminary there is little reason to sticky this topic. I believe it important to get as many ideas out there as possible to help destabalize the "top 5" and keep the meta as fluid as possible.

I won't sticky this topic. I was just stating future plans once we know what is actually going on. The unfortunate reality is that net decks will decide most of our metas.
