Stemming off a conversation we had touched upon in another thread. What would be the Modern P9? Cards printed in Modern frames (8th Edition core set and all expansion printed afterwards). They're cards not on the Reserve List, but likely will never be reprinted.

My list is as follows:
1.) {Jace, the Mind Sculptor}
2.) {Skullclamp}
3.) {Snapcaster Mage}
4.) {Umezawa's Jitte}
5.) {Tarmogoyf}
6.) {Dark Confidant}
7.) {Sensei's Divining Top}
8.) {Stoneforge Mystic}
9.) {Chrome Mox}

I especially like number 8)

I'm not well versed in any of the older cards really, but I know that I've heard a lot about all of those cards being pretty powerful.  I know the power of Jace is pretty blatant, but I'm not totally sure about the others :-\

No delver? No swords?  Those are pretty powerful

#2 no? I get it was banned, but does that make it a P9 card?

I think some equipment could make this list. {sword of fire and ice}?

{skullclamp} is stupid powerful. I dont think very many equipments need to make it on here after that and jitte. I almost feel {path to exile} earns a spot here, but i like this order as is.

ChrisRodriguez

I think {skullclamp} should be #1. Not only is it banned in modern it's also banned in legacy. A card I would have put on the list is {hypergenesis}.

KulrathKnight

#1, 2, 4, 7, 8, and 9 on that list are banned in Modern. To me, that completely removes their power for the Modern format (unless that's not what you meant? ???).

In comparison, the real Power 9 is at least legal, albeit restricted, in Vintage.

BlackJester

I think the OP just meant cards that have been printed in Modern.

Is the list just a list, or the order important?

SOFAI is definitely the best of the five, in my opinion. What I love about this list is that I own all of these except Snappy, Tarm, and the Jitte...

What about {Crucible of Worlds}?
Too conditional. Its great in certain decks, but does nothing alone.

BlackJester

{Stoneforge Mystic} is like 6 of the 9 items on the original p9 list, she breaks the all important mana rules. Cards that circumvent mana as a cost end up being the most broken, OP cards in the game: {Black Lotus}, {Force of Will}, {Mental Mistep}

She immediately replaces herself with the best equipment in your deck, and if she survives a turn, she bypasses mana cost for the equipment.

All the swords are good, but you still need to hit a player to reap rewards.

And {Tarmogoyf} is absolutely bananas! 🐒

I think the crucible is just too limited. Lands from graveyards sure is awesome. But thats that.

I dislike that shes so powerful because she'd be fun if i could get my hand on one :P I just wish some equipments werent stupid powerful.

BlackJester

Swords are good with her, but she TRULY breaks {Batterskull}.
