I will be getting braces are they good?

Tumalc

You will hate them at first, but when all said and done you will be happy. They are expensive... My 13 daughter has them, cost north of 2500$

Dudecore

They no fun to deal with at first. When you're older, you'll be very happy you had them.

That's what the government wants you to think... JK. Ive never had them, but that's ^ what I've heard

GoJuDragon

I have em. They absolutely suck the first few days and its painful to eat anything, but u get used to em. They just hurt a little when they tighten them every few weeks. Just take an advil before every tightening appointment and you will be fine

BlackJester

Would you be interested in a device that could cut the time you have to wear braces by half?  And make your roots stronger?
:D
Not to scare you, but when you get them ask your orthodontist about root resorption or shortening.  It's not something they "advertise" :-X but it does happen.

Short term annoyance for better, healthier teeth in the long run.

Get em while your young and your parents are willing to pay for them.  I am that 30 year old guy with braces so yea it kinda sux.  Mine should be off this month or next 😁

Sidenote:  I am literally picking food out of my braces right now lol.....on lunch break ;)

Also, when you get them off, abide by whatever the Dentist gives/tells you. I was given a retainer... I used it for a while and then stopped. My teeth on my lower jaw moved a bit.

True story. Again, it's difficult to convince a kid that any short term inconvenience will pay huge dividends, but the retainer is super important.

Gorzo

I can tel you first hand - I didn't wear my retainer, and I regret it now. My teeth are fine now and wouldnt have been without the braces, but because I was a stubborn kid with many issues and didn't wear that retainer, they moved back a bit and I lost probably 20% of work the braces did if not more.

Simply put, don't sweat the braces - they'll annoy you for a bit but you'll probably forget they're there before long. And wear that retainer, or you will regret it when you're older.

Cindjor

My wife hates using her retainer and I have to bug her to use it. I'm sure her teeth have shifted because she always complains about her teeth hurting.

On a side note, straight teeth seem to be an American thing. A mark of beauty or something because most of my Asian friends and I don't care about "crooked" teeth.

Tumalc

I regret it too. I looked into invisalign... Way to expensive...

BlackJester

Well, it's not always about beauty.  Crooked teeth can push your jaw off of alignment, cause other dental problems, headaches etc.

Thanks. Just asking because I will be getting braces. And I will be getting my spacers tomorrow.

Cindjor

I'm sure crooked jaws can lead to dental problems. Most of the time it's an aesthetic thing from my experience. I should just ask my dentist. Haha
