My LGS only has extended format FNM. There, at most has been only 10 people that show up.
I check and watch the extended forum here and it seems to get no love. Is this format taboo?

Extended doesn't offer really anything new, or desirable in terms of gameplay. It might one day be a preferred format, but it should really be considered "Standard+"

Standard is the most recent 2 blocks. More popular.

Legacy is every set, and is more popular.

Modern is 8th edition and on, and is more popular.

Casual is whatever.

It terms of formats, extended is in between 3 of them, and doesn't really offer anything interesting.

Edit: does your LGS hate having customers? Why would they have extended? They should be drafting, playing standard and EDH.

In my area we have 3 LGS that are close to each other. About a 10min drive to each. At the one i go to there is always a low turn out. I think it is because of the extended format. However this LGS is kid friendly, I take my 10yr old son. The others are not as kid friendly. The other stores do draft and have much better prices. My son prefers to bring a deck from home and play rather than draft.

Your explanation on why modern gets no love confuses me. I would think that the pool of cards from the extended format would be more fun. Being able to use swords and the like...

Modern is more popular then extended. 8th edition and mirrodin till today. Way more cards, huge banned list.

Extended is just M10 and Zendikar till today. Extended falls between Standard and Modern. Why play one extra block, when you play these current sets which are built to play together? Why play standard +1 block, when you can play with all the modern framed cards (and a huge banned list)?

It doesn't have as much appeal.

I am with you guys. I do not see the point. The LGS insists that Extended is the better format... I don't think I will be going there anymore... Prices are very high there too.

It's too bad, I would hate to see them close.

High prices means,
Box of M13 boosters 135$
Ultrapro sleeves 4.99$

extended has become just standard vs standard from the year before vs standard of 2 years ago. there are very few neat interactions between the sets.

Yeah, I think Modern killed Extended.

Extended used to be for players who didn't want to have to keep up with Standard card rotation as much, but didn't want to enter the Eternal Formats arena (Vintage, Legacy).  Now, those people can do Modern and never worry about their cards rotating out.
